Cascara (koffie kers)
Deze koffiebes wordt geteeld op een Braziliaanse koffieplantage op 1.200 meter hoogte. Na de oogst worden de koffiebessen ontpulpt, dat wil zeggen dat de koffieboon gescheiden wordt van de koffieschil. Dit ontpulpingsproces wordt mechanisch uitgevoerd. Nadat de koffiekersenschillen van de koffieboon zijn verwijderd, worden ze gedurende 25 tot 30 dagen op hangende Afrikaanse droogbedden gedroogd totdat het gewenste vochtgehalte is bereikt. Niet elke cascara smaakt hetzelfde, net zoals niet elke koffie hetzelfde smaakt. Het hangt altijd af van het type koffie, het teeltgebied en de verwerkingsmethode. Ze geven het vruchtvlees een eigen smaak, waardoor de schillen van onze Cáscara-thee een fijne, zoete en tegelijkertijd fruitig-zure smaak afgeven.
