De bourbon plantjes zijn een arabica variatie eerste gecultiveerd door de Fransen op Bourbon (nu Réunion), vanwaar het plantje naar zuid-Amerika en Afrika reisde onder de naam Bourbon. Deze Bourbon zwarte thee heeft een natuurlijk blad, onbewerkt in vorm of structuur. Zijn infusie is bruin-rood en heeft een karakteristiek zacht, licht maar fruitig aroma.
